A Biodynamic Approach to the GI System Including the Immune-Digestion Connection

An opportunity to study with Dr Bill Foley DO MSc (USA)

“I am introducing Dr Foley and this course to the UK and Europe because attending it has transformed my understanding of Biodynamics and Osteopathy. This is very precious opportunity. I hope you will be able to attend and learn from this highly experienced osteopath.” Giles Cleghorn

Dr Foley was a close friend and student of the late Dr Jim Jealous and is a member of the Biodynamic Faculty (USA). He works in Boston practicing full-scope traditional osteopathic medicine and is board certified in Osteopathic Family Medicine, Neuromusculoskeletal Medicine and Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine. This course will focus on wholeness as it pertains to the gastro-intestinal system and its relationship with the rest of human physiology. Osteopathy has always been grounded in science while striving to sense the nature of the human condition in its unadulterated form. In this course we will review aspects of embryology, physiology, and anatomy as it relates to the digestive system while trying to have a sensory experience of the digestive system functioning as a whole.

Topics that will be discussed include:

  1. The embryologic development of the GI tract from a biodynamic osteopathic perspective as it relates to diagnostic and treatment fulcra,
  2. The Seams, a concept first presented by James Jealous, D.O., and how they can be used to treat gastrointestinal disorders including a novel approach to the GI seam,
  3. Recent research on the human micro-biome and the immune-digestion connection, and
  4. Sutherland’s approach to important areas pertaining to GI health.

The course outline
The course will flow with your questions and traverse these topics and include Practicals on the GI tract and the whole patient. The GI tract is easily underestimated in its relation to “The Health” of the whole patient. We will cover its role in immunity, and its need for proper functional ease. There are many levels to explore using a functional model. The Osteopathic principles as reflected in Sutherland’s work and how this correlates to newer research will be discussed in depth.

The prerequisites for study
Applicants are asked to have for the course, a basic introductory course in osteopathy in the Cranial Field or the IVM by; the Cranial Academy, SCTF, Dr. V. Frymann, SCCO or similar institutions and preferably one Biodynamics course between phase 1 to 5 or above.
